Delay Windows automatic updates restart notification

At the end of Windows updates installation, restarting the PC is required for completing the installation. So Automatic Updates pop-up a message (as shown below). When user clicks Restart Now, the PC will be restarted and Automatic updates installation will be completed. But when user is in the middle of some work or when user don't want to restart the PC immediately, users click Restart Later. By default Automatic Updates restart notification pop-up every 10 minutes, until the PC is restarted. This article describes how to delay Windows automatic updates restart notification. Follow the steps given below to achieve the same.

 
  1. Click Start and then click Run.
  2. Type gpedit.msc and click OK. Group policy window opens.
  3. Expand Computer Configuration and then expand Administrative Templates.
  4. Expand Windows Components and select Windows Update.
  5. On the right pane of Group Policy window look for Re-promt for restart with scheduled installations.
  6. Right click on that and select Properties.
  7. In Properties dialog, click Enabled 
  8. Change Wait for following period before prompting again with a scheduled restart (minutes) to some bigger value 60 minutes and click OK. Now the Automatic updates restart notification will not trouble you often.

Note: Restarting the PC after installing Windows updates is must, so restart the PC whenever
